Connaissance du Médoc

Médoc memories - outings - visits - exhibitions

The aims of the Association are to develop a knowledge of the Médoc in its entirety, to share in the preservation of its heritage and its cultural development, and to discover its economic reality. The areas studied and presented are vast: archaeology, history, geography, nature and the environment, art and culture, the economy.

To meet these aims, the Association is constantly operating at two distinct and simultaneous levels: developing in-depth knowledge, and making this available to different audiences; the general public and schoolchildren.

Abbé Baurein
The Association “Baurein pour la Connaissance du Médoc” was founded on the 5th December 1984 in Cissac by a group of locals who wished to share their interest in the Médoc. It is called “Baurein” in homage to the Abbé Baurein (curé of Cissac over a number of years), scholar and historian, whose book “Les variétés Bordelaises” is still considered the standard reference work on the Gironde before 1789.
